 Building Construction

Building Construction is a 2 unit Category B, Vocational Board developed course. It is designed for those students who have an interest in the construction industry as a career, or who enjoy practical subjects and the learning of skills which can be used both in the workplace or at home.
Students studying Building Construction gain a basic foundation of knowledge and skills which are applicable to the construction industry. The construction industry has many facets and is responsible for employing large numbers of skilled workman and tradespeople. The course provides students with the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of skills which are relevant to the broad based construction Industry.
During the two year course, students will complete a minimum of 70 hours of workplacement. This is a mandatory part of the course which gives students the opportunity to work in the construction industry. This is an opportunity for students to gain first hand experience of what a career in this industry is all about. For some students it also provides them with the opportunity to gain apprenticeships or casual work.
