Warrawong school community is presenting its 4th short film festival in November, 2006. Known as the WACKI (Warrawong and Community Kids Images) Film Festival, students from Warrawong High School and Cringila, Kemblawarra, Port Kembla and Warrawong primary schools write, act, direct and edit their own short films. Each film runs for five to eight minutes and the films cover many genres including drama, documentary and comedy.

The film festival is a year long project which culminates with an awards night and screening at the local Gala Theatre, Warrawong. The festival theme this year is “What a World”. Students investigate issues which impact on their everyday lives and acknowledge the diversity of our local community. The goal is to develop student self esteem through the celebration of their personal cultural background including ethnicity, language and religion.

The previous festivals were an outstanding success with over 450 guests at the evening screening and awards presentation. Major prizes were decided by an external judging panel from the local television station, WIN TV and a range of minor awards were decided by the participating schools. The awards night was compered by the breakfast announcer, Dave Gorr from the local radio station, WAVE FM.
